It is listed among \u201cthe most beautiful corners of France\u201d and, since 2000, has been part of the national network of \u00ab\u00a0Towns and Areas of Artistic and Historic Interest\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<td><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"zoom-me\" src=\"\/fr\/files\/2012\/12\/histoire-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"105\" \/><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"zoom-me\" src=\"\/fr\/files\/2012\/12\/histoire-2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"105\" \/><\/td>\n<td>\n<p class=\"gabriola\">Capital of the Touraine South region and fatherland of the writer Alfred de Vigny, the medieval town of Loches preserved its aspect of the Middle-Ages. Despite the changes made over the centuries, the town still has much of its medieval and Renaissance heritage, 1000 years of history and architecture: the Castle known as The Royal Apartments (mainly 15th century, Valois\u2019s favorite residence, marked by three famous women, Joan of Arc, Agnes Sorel and Anne of Brittany), the Collegiate Church of Notre-Dame now St Ours (10th\u201311th century), the Lansyer House (ancestral home of Emmanuel Lansyer, considered in his time as one of the best landscape painters of middle 1800), the Royal Door (12th\u201313th century), and Europe&rsquo;s best preserved Dungeon, an Norman Keep with its height of 37 meters in a perfect state of maintenance (converted into a prison, in 1504 it enclosed the famous Ludovic Sforza, duke of Milan).<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<p class=\"gabriola\">The medieval citadel is surrounded by 1.5 mi (2 km) of old walls; un second wall is home to some of the prettiest homes lochoises (among which is also situated the Villa \u00e0 l\u2019ancien Pigeonnier), and between this wall and un third ring are sandwiched many prestigious buildings of the Renaissance: the City Hall, the Chancellery, the House of the Centaur, the Tower Saint Antoine, the Picois Door and the Cordeiliers Door.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<td><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"zoom-me\" src=\"\/fr\/files\/2012\/12\/histoire-3.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"105\" \/><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<h1 class=\"corsiva\"><\/h1>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>History We are in the Indre-et-Loire department, Centre region, west-central France, southeast of Tours, on the left bank of the Indre River.
